Bradley Wiggins is the hot favourite at 2/5 with Coral to be crowned Sports Personality of the Year after the shortlist was revealed.

Gary Lineker announced the dozen finalists for the BBC gong on the One Show and the Tour de France winner and Olympic gold medallist continued to be a popular choice with punters, who have steadily backed the popular cyclist ever since his glorious triumph across the Channel.

Wiggins is followed in Coral’s betting by double gold medal winner Mo Farah at 4/1 and Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis, a 9/1 shot while Andy Murray is 10/1 after an incredible year that saw him become the first British tennis Grand Slam victor since 1936.

Coral also offer 16/1 for a Paralympian to scoop the prize and 7/1 that the eventual winner is one of the five women in the shortlist.

Coral’s Gary Burton told Betrescue, “In the greatest year of sport this country has ever known, it’s no surprise to see the Tour De France winner leading the way, and with the likes of Ian Poulter, Alistair Brownlee and Greg Rutherford not included, making the short list this year could be classed as an achievement.”
